Front End Web Developer | DataKind

About DataKind:
We are a dynamic start-up non-profit looking to change the world through data. We bring together leading data scientists with high impact social organizations through a comprehensive, collaborative approach that leads to shared insights, greater understanding, and positive action through data in the service of humanity.

DataKind is a community of pioneering data scientists with the talent, commitment, and energy to open the door and show us the way. We are looking for people who share the same passion and energy for wanting to help the greater good through their own set of skills.

About the position:
We are looking for a talented and passionate front end developer to rebuild our website. We are planning to rebuild DataKind.org into a full-featured matching platform where data volunteers and organizations can create profiles, find or submit projects to work on, contact one another, and track the progress of their projects.

We are planning to rebuild the site in two phases: The first phase will mainly focus on adding static content to the site, but we want to design with the second phase in mind. The second phase of the rebuild will contain a good amount of dynamic content including profile creation, project submission, applying for projects, and a projects page tracking the status of an open project.

Currently our site is built using WordPress but we’re looking to change platforms to something that can better support our needs. Right now Drupal and Joomla are our front-runners for CMS, but we are open to suggestions and are willing to build the site from scratch if that makes the most sense. We are looking for you to be actively involved in helping us determine what front-end design makes the most sense.

This position is part-time but has the opportunity to grow into a full-time position.
Looking for someone who has –

Expertise with HTML/CSS/jQuery coding in all browsers
Experience with mobile optimization/responsive coding
Experience integrating with PHP/MySQL backends (or similar)
A good sense of design and an eye for the details
A positive attitude and ability to work with our back-end team
A high level of self-management and organizational skills
Takes pride in keeping their code clean and well documented

How to apply:
If you’re interested, please send us your resume, cover letter, and link to your portfolio or at least 3 sites you’ve coded before at jobs@datakind.org. In your cover letter please tell us about a website that really impresses you and why.
